The Global Montessori International School is located in beautiful Berkeley, California, across the street from the University of California at Berkeley.
Each of the three classes (Young Childrens House, Childrens House, and Elementary) has a spacious classroom. In keeping with the school’s Montessori teaching philosophy, all materials are easily accessible to the students to allow them to select the work that interests them the most.
Outside of the classrooms is a playground for both organized and informal outdoor play and activities. During appropriate weather, students usually eat lunch outdoors.
GMIS features a garden, which gives the children a multi-sensory experience with living things. A flower side attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and other animals. An edible side attracts children to see, touch, and taste the food they are growing. The garden is primarily cared for by the children, who help the teachers and adult volunteers to plant, water, and harvest.
