A Day in the Life at GMIS

Best Choice

GMIS is such an incredible school. We always tell other parents it's the best school in the area because you get the Mandarin language education PLUS Montessori program. It's the best choice we've made to enroll our child in this school.

Dedicated Parents

The teachers and staff at GMIS genuinely care for the well-being of all the students.  They provide a warm, supportive environment for kids to learn and explore the world around them. I feel fortunate to be involved with a school with such enthusiastic and dedicated parents, who are also fun to be around.

Caring, gentle teachers

Our son went to GMIS for preschool and loved it. Caring, gentle teachers, a strong parent community and Mandarin - all that we could hope for.

At GMIS, we follow Montessori methods, and teach everything from the most basic life skills (potty training!) all the way through reading and writing in English and Chinese.

As part of our immersive bilingual Montessori education, our children enjoy a structured playing environment where they are safely monitored by our teachers. They are encouraged to help organize the day’s lesson, set up the classroom, participate in lessons and complete self-selected work.  Time is given each day to listening to the teacher read a story as well as taking turns to read. At lunch time, children are encouraged to enjoy their food with grace and courtesy. Each child is also responsible for cleaning up their area after lunch. A well-rounded healthy student does not only require academic exercise but physical exercise – so our children enjoy every day outdoor playtime which enables them to have some fun release of energy which will help him or her focus during work time.

Young Children's House (2-3yr)

Children in Young Children’s House will enjoy a structured playing environment where they will be safely monitored by members of our staff. Children under 4 use the daily nap period to calm down after playing and wake up re-energized and focused for the afternoon work cycle.

Children's House (3-6yr)

Students spend time participating in lessons and completing self-selected work. The activities will change depending on the child’s needs and interests and can vary from whole class participation and discussion to small group work and individual activities.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

Transitional kindergarten is an exciting educational opportunity that is tailored to meet the needs of children born in the fall and will turn five years old before they go to kindergarten. Our program blends social and emotional experience with academic learning, so that students not only learn essential pre-literacy, pre-math, and other cognitive skills, but also develop social and self-regulation skills needed to succeed in school and life.

After School Child Care

As part of our After School Program we offer Art – providing a visual arts experience that develops creative thinkers and problem solvers, Kung Fu – where the children learn the basics of Shaolin Kung Fu, including practical self-defense, basic hand and kicking techniques, stances and the philosophy behind Kung Fu, and Chinese Mandarin – to expand their knowledge understanding of Chinese culture and language based on their individual learning needs.
